About Concrete and Moisture Testing

Moisture vapor emission rate (MVER) from concrete has an impact on the type of floor covering used on concrete slabs. A newly poured concrete slab may take as long as a year to fully dry. There are two common methods for testing the MVER in concrete, the calcium chloride test and relative humidity (RH) probes to measure the relative humidity from deeper in the concrete slab. According to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, the relative humidity tests with RH probes are a more accurate way to test for moisture on a concrete slab.
